Smart exhaust gas treatment by catalytic technologies.
Thanks to the European regulations for exhaust gas treatment for medium combustion plants as well as for larger power plants emission control gets the deserved importance. This article gives comprehensive overview about the common catalytic technology available to ensure environmental and personal health.
Herewith we will focus on the catalytic conversion of key harmful components without considering some of them, like mercury, which concentration should be reduced as well and might be partially also removed by the so-called Selective Catalytic Reduction technology used for NOx reduction. There are 2 types of catalytic technology considered below – oxidation catalyst and selective catalytic reduction. After purification the off- gas would be send to a chimney.
However if only a chimney is used without purification, the harmful components are still in the air, but higher in the atmosphere.
Described catalytic systems are best suitable for gensets from 0,2 to 10 MW a unit, ensuring minimal loss on backup pressure, stable operation within wide temperature ranges, low operation costs, and up to 98 % conversion rate.

Power stations in metallurgical industry on the base of Siemens gas turbine technologies.
Under the conditions of modern fast-developing economy many branches of industry adapting to market conditions have to implement advanced technological solutions to the main and auxiliary production facilities. Auxiliary production includes as a rule enterprise infrastructure which provides reliable operation of the main production facilities.
The article presents the main modern world trends in electric power supply of the enterprises of iron-and-steel industry and non-ferrous metallurgy.

Tyumen power equipment plant was commissioned.
Energotechservice company officially commissioned new enterprise for the production of modularized gas engine power plants on the area of Borovsky industrial park in Tyumen. The ceremony of commissioning was held on 19th of September under X Tyumen Oil & Gas Forum. The project is the main investment of the company to the development of distributed power generation market in Russia. On the open site of the forum the company presented power plants on the base of INNIO’s Jenbacher and Waukesha gas engines which the company plans to manufacture in the future.

Service life of gas engine power plant: how it can be extended.
The manufacturers of gas engine power plants determine long service life about 20 years at production of the equipment. Under continuous work it means 8500 operating hours per year, 170 000 during 20 years. Total output of gas engine power plants rated at 500 kW during twenty years is 85 mln kWh.
Taking into account the difference between electric power tariff (at an average 6 rubles in Russia) and prime cost of electric power generated by gas engine power
plant (2 rubles) one can get 340 mln rubles of saving.
Unfortunately at present in the country there is no longterm planning even on the state level.

New approaches to upgrading of CHP plants and boiler houses.
At present many of obsolete boiler houses and CHP plants owners are challenged the problem of business yield increase (often losses avoidance) without tariff for delivery of thermal energy rising. The article presents successful experience of this problem solving. Application of gas engine power plants for meeting the demands of power engineering facilities at present are rather conventional solution.
Partially cutting customers’ expenses this solution does not provide the opportunity to drastically (by several times) increase profitability or to reduce disadvantageousness of steam power plants and boiler houses.
The article presents the experience of using new business resources of higheffective gas engine power plants. They help the companies, which are not afraid of innovations, to drastically increase profitability by means of sale of electric power on retail market and thermal power according to tariffs.

Protection of exhaust gases heat-exchangers from corrosion and fouling.
Territory of Russia is not fully provided with natural gas pipeline. That is why diesel power plants are often used on distributed power generation market.
Many of new diesel power plants are developed to operate in cogeneration cycle and equipped with waste-heat recovery systems. The main component of such systems is exhaust gases heat-exchangers.
Combustion products of different types of diesel fuel contain soot and liquid hydrocarbons. Sticking to the surface of heat-exchanger they create surface-contaminant film.
In result heat-transfer is reduced and performance parameters of installed equipment decrease.
In such cases VladModule use in all cogeneration projects Aprovis automated system of heat-exchangers cleaning.

Turbocharger solutions for new engine generations.
The latest development of engines is mainly driven by performance targets, lifetime costs and rules or regulations regarding emissions.
All these demands lead to new generations of engines with several new technologies. On the one hand gas engines show the trend to install two-stage turbocharging systems to use the benefit of the intercooling for better performance.
On the other hand diesel engines have to include new engine technologies, like exhaust gas recirculation or exhaust gas after treatment systems, to manage the trade-off between emissions and specific fuel oil consumption demands. Dual fuel engines, more or less a combination of both engine types, are characterized by much higher compressor pressure ratios for diesel mode in comparison to gas mode. This implies new challenges for the singlestage turbocharging due to the demands of pressure ratio more than 5.5 in combination with wide compressor maps for mode switching. In the majority of cases the effectiveness of all these new technologies depends on optimized or even customized turbocharger solutions. The product portfolio of KBB reflects these requirements of new engine generations.
