IN BRIEF #4-2020

Operation of SGT-600 DLE gas turbine with over 60 % H2 in natural gas.
Hydrogen is one of the leading options for storing energy from renewables and surplus electricity.
Hydrogen is also a major
constituent in various streams in the chemical industry and cannot always be used for better purposes than flaring or heat and power generation. Siemens has identified the 24 MWe SGT-600 DLE gas turbine as a candidate for having a high hydrogen capability.
The burners for using
hydrogen in the SGT-600 have been developed for and by Additive Manufacturing technology. Burner development was carried out according to «the standard method within the industry», meaning CFD-analysis, atmospheric single burner combustion testing followed by pressurized single burner combustion testing and finally a full-scale machine test at the Siemens Energy AB test rig facility in Sweden.

Electric power supply control system for power stations on the base of gas engine power plants.
It is well-known that without independent feasibility study of all power station systems distributed power generation stations not always provide expected benefit. On the stage of power station construction automation matters very often recede into the background. However, during the operation there are emergency shutdowns of one or several power units which cause stopping of technological process and as a result heavy losses of the enterprise.

Refurbishment of hot gas path components in the Service Center of Siemens Gas Turbine Technologies.
The hot gas path blades of gas turbines operate in a very aggressive environment at elevated temperatures inducing corrosion,
erosion, and dynamic
fatigue loads. For this reason, the blades are made of heat- and corrosion-resistant nickel- and cobalt-based superalloys.
These alloys have unique
high-temperature strength properties. Complex configuration of the inner blade geometry combined with cooling holes in the blade airfoils provides necessary convection film cooling. Protective coatings enable the blades to be operated at the inlet gas temperature of up to 1500 °C. However, severe operating conditions of the blades lead to their wear. The Service Center of Siemens Gas Turbine Technologies applies upto-date technologies and materials for the refurbishment of gas turbine blades. After repair they can be operated for several service intervals.

Multifunctional gas treatment plants of Energas: experience of reliable operation.
The first fuel gas treatment plant of Energas Group of Companies was commissioned eight years ago of the site of Yuzhno-Sakhalinskaya TPP. The project launched the implementation of multifunctional gas treatment plants at various objects. Since then considerable experience of such technological equipment deliveries was gained, its cross functional opportunities were unveiled and its effectiveness and reliability were proved. Annually, realizes dozens of projects and get acknowledgments that gas treatment is adjusted and coordinated technological process.

Assesment of heat-exchanging units destruction factors.
Thermoflow company got the order from the client which carries out the operation of air heat-exchangers as a part of power station. Under the order Thermoflow inspected air heat-exchangers for such factors as deformation of lamellas, corrosion and impurity. The specialists of the company also evaluated the results of their influence to productivity of the equipment.
For carrying-out of qualitative examination the
company used air heat-exchanger which was in operation during eight years. Every month the heat-exchanger was cleaned, washed and maintained annually.
Technical regulations
during assembling and operation were not violated. It should also be taken into account that as starting point for evaluation was taken general lack of corrosion spots, any damages or impurities at air heat-exchanger commissioning. The specialists of the company inspected air heat-exchanger using endoscope which gave the opportunity to examine all hard-to-reach places between lamellas.

Siemens service center in Krasnodar: dry gas seals repair.
Siemens service center was created in Krasnodar in 2005 for maintenance and overhaul of Siemens small gas turbines which are in operation at power and pumping stations of Caspian pipeline consortium JSC. Multifunctional service center carries out inspections of SGT-100 gas turbines with replacement of components and units of gas turbine plants, provides storage of parts and units of gas turbines and auxiliary systems. The center offers full range of services for support of gas turbine equipment in operation to Russian customers.

Holistic approach for performance and emission development of high speed gas and dual fuel engines.
A holistic, interdisciplinary approach integrating skill groups into one team forming a structured development process is required, starting with the documentation of the specific functional requirements while understanding the business model of the customer in detail.
Proceeding with the synthesis and system validation, the overall engineering task is to ensure system integration from concept to production and
operation with the goal of providing a high quality gas or dual fuel engine that meets the end user needs.
In view of limited manpower, resources and
time, there is often a demand for trading optimality, completeness or precision (change from holistic to heuristic) especially when classic methods are considered being too slow or when classic methods fail to find any exact solution. This kind of demand for optimization reaches its limit wherever shortcuts lead to severe development risks not recognized in time.

Power plants on the base of MAN engines for distributed power generation market.
Russian manufacturers of gas engine power plants for distributed power generation market explained why they often use MAN gas engines for their plants. Mr. Klemin executive director of MR-Group draws attention that rather wide range of CHP plants on the base of MAN gas engines rated at 35…500 kW is presented now on the market. The projects realized on the base of such plants are effective in real conditions of small and mid-sized business. Mr. Korytov, technical director of Gas Machines Ltd. noted that they cooperated with MAN since 2012. During this period more than 26 projects on the base of MAN equipment were realized in different spheres. MAN engines proved their high reliability and flexibility in operation. Long-term overhaul periods of MAN gas engines provide low total cost of ownership. Power plants on the base of MAN engines have high compactability and efficiency.

Gas engine plant fuel system: differences from diesel generator.
There is only one type of fuel supply system for gas engines but the quality of such systems is defined by hardware components. The main feature of gas as a fuel is determined by unsteadiness of gas parameters. Depending on various factors fuel gas from the field changes its calorific value. It directly influences to the parameters of the plant, its efficiency, service life and stability of operation. For cross-country pipeline gas the changing of parameters is minimal. But for associated petroleum gas and other gases methane index changes substantively.
For monitoring, controlling, regulating and system protection ALL-INONE is an expandable controller for both single and multiple gen-sets operating
in standby or parallel modes, especially in cogeneration (CHP) and other complex applications.
Modular design (consisting of AIO controller and
display unit) allows easy installation with the ability to add many different extension modules designed to suit individual customer requirements.
