With the connection of the 9th power unit to the unified energy system of the country the modernization of the Syrdarya thermal power plant has been completed. The investment project worth $146 million was implemented jointly with the Power Machines company. As part of the project the modernization at the station took place in stages: the 3rd and 4th power units in 2019, the 5th and 6th in 2020 and the 9th-10th in 2021.

As a result of the work carried out the capacity of each power unit on the base of  K-300-240-1 steam turbines was increased from 300 to 325 MW, and the nominal fuel consumption per kW/h is reduced by 40 g . Thus upon completion of the three-stage modernization savings will amount to 270 million m³ of gas per year.

The works included the comprehensive improvement of turbine, generator, boiler and auxiliary equipment, the introduction of automatic process control systems, the reconstruction of the automatic control system, as well as a full range of construction and installation, commissioning and supervision works.
