Power complex for Essen trading centre: electricity, heat, cold.

The Republic of Tatarstan suffers from electric power shortage. It is often impossible or too expensive to obtain the required power. The new trading and entertainment centre in Naberezhnye Chelny being under construction Essen Production AG having considered all the energy supply variants decided to build its own power plant. For the purpose to satisfy all customer’s power requirements in electricity, heat and cold, KROK Incorporated JSC constructed the power complex.

The power plant is designed on the base of two Caterpillar G3516LE gas engine power units with total electric output of 2.06 MW. Maximum thermal power output is 2.74 MW.

The power plant is also equipped with automatically controlled Cummins C900D5 diesel generator with the capacity of 720 kW. Boiler-house designed on the base of two Buderus boilers will be used in the periods of peak thermal loads. The maximum thermal output of the boiler-house is 2.14 MW. The power complex is also equipped with a cooling unit rated at 1.2 MW on the base of Carrier chiller.

Low-emission combustion chamber for NK-series gas turbines.

One of the questions under solution in the course of gas turbine development is the question to decrease NOx and CO emission. The main field of investigations is designing so-called dry combustion systems (without water and steam injection) based on the combustion of lean homogenous air-fuel mixture. Such combustion systems equipped with low-emission combustion chambers operate in single mode thus providing the decrease of NOx and CO emission in a limited operating power range close to maximum operating mode.

At SNTK named after N.D. Kuznetsov, design bureau, a new technology of low-emission combustion for NK-series gas turbine annular combustion chambers was developed on the base of unitized double-circuit burner. In practice at nominal load the technology provides NOx and CO (at 15% O2) emission levels less than 50 mg/m3 and 150 mg/m3 respectively.

Designed in 2005 unitized double-circuit low-emission burner consists of two concentrically positioned gas-air circuits. The outer one is intended for lean air-fuel mixture advance treatment and has a swirl nozzle. Hollow blades are designed with holes of different diameter and arrangement providing the formation of homogenous air-fuel mixture.

Transport diesel engine operation on the mixture of diesel fuel and rapeseed methyl ester (RME).

Mixing RME with diesel fuel has a significant influence on the heat value, oxygen and sulfur content and fraction composition of the fuel mixture.

The application of the fuel with 60 % RME content doesn’t impair D-245.12C engine output. As for full-load curve the increase of RME content up to 60 % decreases smoking at the exhaust 2.5-3 times. RME content up to 60 % also allows decreasing CO emissions by 30 %.  Besides to minimize NOx and CHx emissions it is necessary to optimize the content of biofuel mixture.

The increase of RME concentration in biofuel mixture under no-load conditions provides the decrease of toxic gaseous components emission.

Operation and maintenance of gas turbine power units.

The article is devoted to the question of technical operation of stationary gas turbine power units, and their dependence on on-site power plant maintenance.

Having analyzed the experience of gas turbine maintenance the authors note that Siemens, GE and Alstom recommend scheduling maintenance of gas turbine power units depending on the type (autonomous, cogeneration, combined-cycle, industrial).

On-site maintenance of gas turbine power units of high and medium capacity, of converted and marine turbines of lower capacity differs greatly. The article reveals the principal factors influencing gas turbine life time.

Application perspectives of gas engines by foreign manufacturers on the territory of Russian Federation.

One of the effective and wide-spread technologies for electricity generation based on gas utilization is the application of power plants designed on the base of gas engines. Such engines have a number of advantages over diesel engines and gas turbines. There is no necessity to transport diesel fuel to distant oil and gas fields; they feature high generating efficiency, low enough emission level and high operational reliability. They are capable of operating on partial loads for a long period without prejudice to their life time and practically without efficiency decrease.

Stress and strain calculations of gas engine connecting rods.

The results of stress and strain calculations of connecting rods were compared using different methods: analytic, quasi-static, quasi-static with cyclic load and dynamic. The algorithm on the base of dynamic analysis with the regard for changing load is proposed for calculation and evaluation of connecting rod stress and strain parameters.

The most accurate way of stress and strain evaluation is numerical calculation considering load change and contact interaction with other parts of crank mechanism.

Russia Power keeps on its activity.

More than 120 companies including foreign ones such as GE Energy, Siemens, Ansaldo Energia, AE&E, CMI, FATA and others took part at Russia Power exhibition and conference this year. Among Russian participants one should note Power Machines, E4 Group, Technopromexport, Energomash and many others.
The exhibition was held in a difficult economic situation which had a significant influence upon power sector. Though one could observe a great number of participants and visitors revealing a great interest to the problems and perspectives of Russian power industry development.

The list of participants was extended and became more diverse: new engineering companies engaged in designing and logistics, manufacturers of different engine components and systems (reducers, generators, filters, noise control systems) and so on.

A new step in the development of Russia Power was students’ program that made it possible for senior students to obtain additional information about power sector in general and think over the perspectives of future employment.
There was a possibility to attend conference proceedings as delegates and to take part in special session.
