Siemens has received an order from South Korea for the supply of its latest high-efficiency gas turbine (H Class). For the first time Siemens will supply a complete combined cycle power plant equipped with a new-generation gas turbine. Bugok 3 with an electrical capacity of 400 megawatts (MW) will attain an efficiency above the record figure of 60 percent and supply electricity to more than 300,000 people. Purchaser is the Seoul-based utility GS Electric Power and Services Co., Ltd. The natural gas-fired power plant is scheduled to come on line in the summer of 2013.

Siemens will supply the Bugok 3 power plant as a turnkey project. The scope of supply includes a new-generation SGT6-8000H gas turbine, SST6-5000HI-L steam turbine, a hydrogen-cooled generator SGEN6-2000H, a BENSON HRSG as well as electrical equipment and the Instrumentation & Controls system SPPA-T3000. A long-term maintenance agreement was also concluded for the main components.

The new Siemens H Class gas turbine generation had its market entry in mid-2010 and will post efficiency records of more than 60 percent in combined cycle duty: In comparison with the installed global fleet of gas fired power plants gas consumption and carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions are both reduced by approximately one-third. Compared to coal-fired power plants the H Class reduces CO2 emissions by as much as 75 percent.
