PowerWind 56 produces its first energy in the UK.

Since the beginning of December, the rotor of a 900-kW turbine of the type PowerWind 56 is spinning on the premises of the University of Sheffield. The first kilo watt hours were produced on 6.12.2011. This is the first time for a PowerWind turbine to feed electricity into the UK grid.

The turnkey turbine was delivered by British construction company BAM Construction Ltd. The university, a typical Community-scale customer, will cover a part of its energy demand using wind power and, in doing so, benefit from the profitable remuneration system in the UK: The system promotes the operation of turbines with a rated power of less than one megawatt.
