Siemens receives an order for the delivery of three additional SGT6-8000H gas turbine and generator packages from Florida Power & Light (FPL). FPL, a subsidiary of U.S.-based NextEra Energy, Inc., serves the third most customers of any American electric utility, with approximately 4.6 million accounts. FPL will install the gas turbines to modernize its Port Everglades Next Generation Clean Energy Center, with the goal of cutting fossil fuel consumption by one-third, thus delivering customer benefits of more than $400 million over the turbines' entire lifecycle of approximately 30 years. The modernized combined-cycle plant is expected to start operation in 2016.
