IN BRIEF #5-2021

Hydrogen power with Siemens Energy gas turbines.
For the last few decades the focus for reducing the carbon emissions in the energy sector has been on the development of renewable generation using wind and solar energy. While renewables do not produce carbon emissions, they introduce a high level of intermittency due to changing weather conditions and variations in solar irradiation. This is often coupled with mismatches between the demand and supply of energy. The use of hydrogen in gas turbines has several benefits to the power sector.
For operators, the use of hydrogen fuels reduces the carbon emissions of existing generation plants. It allows these facilities to participate in low carbon energy markets and prevents stranded assets due to regulations on emissions reductions. For the grid, gas turbines operating on hydrogen fuel or hydrogen fuel mixtures are dispatchable and flexible generation capacity available to keep the grid stable.

Reduction of hydrocarbon emissions in extractive industries.
Reducing emissions of harmful substances from industrial, processing and extractive industries is a global trend. In our country, the energy transition is complicated by the unwillingness of legislation, the skepticism of some industrialists and the immaturity of technologies. How do oil and gas companies behave in this situation?
In May Lukoil announced the consolidation of energy assets with a high carbon footprint into a single structure – VDK-Energo.
These assets are estimated to have a carbon footprint of about 12 million tons per year, and this is more than a third of all emissions of Lukoil PJSC in Russia. Measures are being developed to reduce emissions at the stations.
Sibur is also deepening associated petroleum gas processing. Last year the company's plants processed more than 21 billion m3 of APG. Dry gasoline gas is used at thermal power stations as a fuel, broad fractions of light hydrocarbons are used in petrochemicals.

Unified gas pumping unit with a capacity of 16…25 MW produced by UEC Engineering.
UEC Engineering company is mastering the serial production of the first UGPA-16(25) unified gas pumping unit in Russia.
The use of these promising products in the construction of new gas pipelines will allow Gazprom to significantly reduce the cost and timing of commissioning of compressor stations. UGPA-16(25) is a unified modular unit consisting of interconnected systems and basic elements and placed on the same type of foundation.

Balanced provision of consumers with green energy.
Alfa Balt Engineering actively uses all the latest environmental developments in the production of power sources based on diesel power plants, wind generators and gas engine power plants. Today the most environmentally friendly option of traditional technologies for electric power generation by burning fossil fuels are combined-cycle, gas engine and gas turbine power plants. The use of gas engine power plants powered by natural gas instead of coal-fired power plants reduces CO2 emissions by 25...50 %.Carbon neutrality is becoming a key goal that the European Union plans to achieve by 2050, but the transition to natural gas power generation and increasing the efficiency of power plants are only the first steps.

Energas Group pf Companies: we solve the problems of low-pressure APG comprehensively.
A.A. Kramskoy, general director of ServiceEnergaz LLC (ENERGAZ Group) gave an interview about the use of special solutions developed by the engineers of ENERGAZ for the fullscale implementation of gas treatment projects.
To solve the technological problem of compression of low-pressure accociated petroleum gas the company uses an integrated approach. The deposits are equipped with small compressor stations or compressor stations of low separation stages (SCNS), which are based on low-pressure gas booster units.

Branded service of gas turbine power plants manufactured by UEC-Aviadvigatel JSC.
In October 10 years have passed since the beginning of the implementation of the program of full-scale branded repair and maintenance of EGES-12S gas turbine power plants.
The results of many years of work in this direction clearly demonstrate the effectiveness of this service scheme.
UEC-Aviadvigatel JSC is a design bureau for the development of aircraft gas turbine engines, as well as industrial gas turbine engines and power plants based on aviation technologies. Today one of the main activities of the enterprise is the development, serial production, installation, commissioning, repair of equipment within the framework of the existing after-sales service programs.

Modernization of Cummins QSV91/81 engines.
The Cummins QSV 91/81 engines have proven themselves to be reliable equipment, however, during the long-term operation of the equipment it becomes necessary to replace and modernize the control system. These expensive works require highly qualified specialists.
The TECH Group of Companies, together with the German manufacturer MOTORTECH GmbH, offers an alternative solution to this problem.
It is a comprehensive modernization of the control system, including replacement of the ignition system, anti-knock and control system, as well as replacement of all wiring on the engine.
The price of this solution is significantly lower than the manufacturer's standard offer.

Modernization of the power station in Sobolevo settlement of Kamchatsky Area.
The operation of the power station as part of an isolated system imposes additional requirements on the equipment in terms of reliability, the quality of the energy produced and a number of other parameters. VladModul company together with Terberg (the Netherlands) carried out reconstruction of the control system of the autonomous power plant GDES7 in the settlement of Sobolevo, Kamchatsky Area. The power plant consists of two G3516V gas engine power plants and a D3512V dual-fuel generator set manufactured by Caterpillar.

Next generation of fourstroke control and monitoring architectures based on a modular kit concept.
Our world is constantly changing. More and more, the pace of change aligns itself with the speed of the internet and technological developments are advancing inexorably. As a consequence, new possibilities for existing and future business models required, that might have disruptive effects on established products.
The key measures in order to successfully react to this altered environment are new technologies and business models, but the interfaces to the technological basis and their ability to adapt to the changes are just as crucial for the success. As a consequence of digitalization and Big Data, future developments will primarily focus on the field of automation.
The challenges lie in providing a flexible and scalable technological basis for the engine control and the integration of new functions and technologies with the required safety, reliability and robustness.

Scientific and technical session of Russian Academy of Sciences on the problems of gas turbines.
From September 23 to 24 a session Scientific and technical aspects of the use of gas turbine plants in the economy of the country on the problems of gas turbines and combined cycle gas turbine power stations was held in Moscow. The organizers were the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Commission on Gas Turbines and the All-Russian Thermal Engineering Institute.
The session was attended by representatives of Russian science, power engineering companies, enterprises where gas turbine equipment is operated, and potential customers.
The topics of the reports covered a wide range of issues related to the design, development and operation of gas turbine stations.

Ros-Gas-Expo’ 2021.
From October 5 to 8, the XXV International Specialized exhibition of the gas industry and technical tools for the gas industry was held at the Expoforum Exhibition Center in the framework of the X St. Petersburg International Gas Forum.
The organizer of the event was Farexpo.
About 400 companies from more than 20 countries take part in the exhibition every year. The event is annually attended by about 10,000 managers and specialists of the largest oil and gas companies, representatives of the country's design institutes, heads of professional universities and research institutes. Over the long history of the exhibition Ros-Gaz-Expo has become the main industry event in Russia where achievements in the field of energy, construction, operation and reconstruction of gas transmission systems and gas consumption systems are demonstrated.
