Spanish electric utility Iberdrola has selected France-based energy company Areva's offshore wind technology for its 400MW Wikinger wind project, to be developed in Germany.
Under the terms of the agreement, Areva will deliver its M5000 5MW wind turbine for the Wikinger wind farm, which is scheduled to be constructed between 2016 and 2017.
Areva said its M5000 turbine for this project will be manufactured at its facilities in Bremerhaven, Germany, and installed 35km off the coast of the German island of Rügen. The firm will be responsible for equipment transportation, installation, commissioning and maintenance of the Wikinger wind farm, which is capable of producing enough clean electricity to power 350,000 homes in the region. Siemens Energy has signed a contract extension with Edison Mission Energy to continue providing service and maintenance on the 70 SWT-2.3-93 wind turbines operating at the Wildorado Wind Ranch, near Amarillo, Texas. The extension will help the project perform at optimal levels of efficiency and availability for years to come. Located on approximately 16,000 acres, the 161 megawatt (MW) Wildorado Wind Ranch has the capacity to meet the electricity demand of more than 50,000 households.
Cartier Wind Energy, a joint venture of Innergex Renewable Energy and TransCanada, has completed Canada's largest wind farm.
The Gros-Morne project, located in Québec, is powered by 141 GE turbines. The 211.5MW wind farm has the potential to generate enough renewable energy to power 20,000 homes in the province. This power will be sold to Hydro-Quebec under a 20-year contract. GE will provide operations and maintenance services for the wind farm over four years.
These renewable energy projects were awarded as part of Hydro-Québec's 2004 request for proposals (RFP) to provide 1,000MW of new wind power capacity to the province by 2012.
Gamesa has announced that it will sell an 8MW wind project in France to Impax New Energy Investors II LP (NEF II). Located in the Limousin region, the La Souterraine wind project will be equipped with four Gamesa G97-2MW turbines. The turbine manufacturer, which developed the project, will also complete construction by the end of 2012.
Gamesa has brought 126MW of capacity online in France since 2000 and has a project portfolio of over 570MW in various development stages.
Siemens Energy has secured the order for the Jeffrey's Bay wind power plant with a capacity of 138 megawatts (MW). This marks the company's market entry into the South African wind power sector. Siemens has now received a total of 16 orders for more than 270 onshore wind turbines from Europe and South Africa since July 2012. The total capacity of these projects of 730 MW is sufficient to supply 730,000 households with ecofriendly electricity, with 560 MW of this total booked in the fourth quarter of fiscal 2012. The total volume of this order for supply, installation and service is more than EUR880 million.
Siemens will supply and install wind turbines, and provide service and maintenance, for three wind farms each in UK, Denmark and Sweden, for two projects each in Turkey and Croatia and for one project each in Macedonia, Poland and South Africa.
The contract for the delivery of nine mobile gas turbine power plants was signed with Olimpstroy State Corporation. The equipment will cover all peak demands for electric power during Winter Olympic Games Paralympic Games in 2014. Under the contract Mobile GTES JSC will supply gas turbine plants with total output of 202.5 MW. They will be moved from Moscow Region. Mobile gas turbine plants are installed on trailers. Application of advanced power technologies gives the opportunity to achieve nominal output during seven minutes from cold start of gas turbine power plants.
Under the contracts with Novatek-Yurkharovneftegas Sumy NPO will manufacture and supply four GPA-Ts-25 gas pumping units and seven filter-separator units. Each gas pumping unit has output of 25 MW. They were designed around Zorya-Mashproject DU80 gas turbines. The units will be equipped with Sumy NPO centrifugal compressors. Last year for the first stage of compressor station three gas pumping units each rated at 25 MW were supplied to the site.
